RIDE OF A LIFE TIME

Here is an informative Blog about our ride to GOA via Karwar

All the planning and execution of this biker trip started as only a vision of what i could see as the
"RIDE OF A LIFE TIME" for the gang of 4 :

  • Madhusudan
  • Rajesh
  • Rakesh(bookali)
  • ME(Aravind)
I got interested in creating this blog beacuse i felt that all the other blogs of bike rides to goa or gokarna didn't or couldn't capture the complete essence of the bike ride to goa and mainly the road directions for such a trip....

so i'll be including all the details i can possibly include in this blog about goa and the way to it on a bike..ofcourse
Routes available:
  • To panaji via TUMKUR-GUBBI-TIPTUR-SHIMOGA-SAGARA(near JOG FALLS)-HONNAVAR-GOKARNA-KARWAR-MARGOA-PANAJI)most obvious route..
  • OR VIA TUMKUR-CHITRADURGA-DAVANAGERE-HUBLI-PANAJI...

The route we took was the Shimoga route...as it's got sceneries which are more like heaven on Earth...and also has got good places like jog, gokarna, karwar to see on the way to Goa...

well, it all began one night when i stumbled across this blog of some guy named arun who had been to goa on his thunderbird....i was really surprised about the fact that a person had been to goa from bangalore on his bike and had been back to tell the story....

and EUREKA(not eureka forbes) i got this inspiration of going to goa on my bike...
i always loved long rides but never had got a chance to go more than 70km drives except to places like nandi hill etc..

But the problem was i couldn't go alone as i was not allowed to by my parents..
And if i had to go with my friends i had to choose people who could come along and make it to goa safe and back...and had to be a freako to even agree for this ride...

IF YOU FEEL OUR STORY  IS INTERESTING, PLEASE CONTINUE READING...ELSE THANK YOU FOR VIEWING MY BLOG...

there were very few candidates in my friends list who had all these necessary features....but as our 5th sem exams were fast approaching i could not start my campaigning for riders...

but to make sure atleast one guy would accompany me on this trip i had to propose this trip to some one or the other before our exams commenced...

so i took a chance with my friend called Rajesh..whom i knew back from school days...
the proposition i made to him was really small and quick...he was online one day in the afternoon and i just typed into google talk asking him to accompany me to GOA on my bike...
there was no reply from his side to this proposition...which scared me...
then after 5 minutes my cell phone started to ring...
and it was Rajesh...he was like"are you feeling alright or are you joking"....he was really positive that we couldn't make it till goa on our bikes....

but it took me around 15 minutes to guarantee him that i would bring him back safely from GOA....i was pretty sure that he wouldn't agree...but he hanged up the phone saying that we shall think of this after our exams...which was fair enough for me than a NO...

so my tries of contacting my other friends and asking them to accompany me to GOA on my bike were in vain...as each one had a problem, either that they did not have enough cash to have fun there in GOA or that their parents just wouldn't let them to go...

later to make believe in the ride,i sent Rajesh all the links to the blogs posted by people who had been on long rides on bikes, like a dude who had been to karwar on his yezdi(which was an old reconditioned one)...which Rajesh didn't take seriously...

i was completely sure and confident that any bike in the segment of 100cc and above would easily make it to GOA given that the bike had undergone a good service in a good mechanic shop...

but the problem was to get others to believe in me and in their bikes...if any other guy accompanied us with his bike...

so i also tried my school friends and other common friends
which ended in some hope as they agreed in the beggining...but later refused as they had some monetary problems...and permission problems(parents permission)..all this took me around a month or so to just bring up the topic of going to GOA on our bikes and to make it sensible to people...

while our exams were really close by this time

But i still carried on with my search for pillion and fellow rider friends for the GOA ride
...

later came the idea to me of asking my other good friend Madhusudan for the bike ride(rajesh, madhu and myself are school mates)...but i had my doubts as even he had never believed in long rides on bikes...and especially this one...it took me some time to convince him to atleast try to come along...all were not sure of their own decisions as no one was positive enough to think that we could make it..

all these dicussions were followed by showers of negative thoughts telling me about problems such as flat tires and engine failures!!! well from an engineers point of view, flat tire was ok,but engine failures was not sounding realistic to me in and sense of the sentence!!!!!coz
i don't think i have ever heard of an engine failure on hiways unless the bike had previous engine problems which had gone un rectified and had grown in magnitude and finally had broken down....

My bike(PULSAR 150cc) was in really good condition as it was maintained by me
and Rajesh's bike was not yet confirmed as he had a SUZUKI SAMURAI which was in bad condition...and he was having thoughts of getting his brother's bike(PULSAR DTS-i 150)..and most importantly he POSITIVELY NEVER BELIEVED his SAMURAI bike would make it to GOA....but I was completely sure that with some repair work his bike was fit enough for the ride...

well, the plan of going to GOA on our bike had been hyped up by MR.Madhusudan and he had called his college mate named Rakesh whom we knew little of as we had met him only a couple of times with Madhusudan....and madhu had caught the publicity from his friends that he was going to GOA on a bike...!!all this was during the exam preperation period...!!!

so madhu also had to make sure that this bike trip would turn into reality...else i don't think he could handle the humiliation of failing to ge the plan work..it became a matter of pride to madhu and me..

later after a few days his friend rakesh had gotten really excited about the plan and told madhu that he would surely accompany him on the bike ride...

so now the exams were fast approaching and i was really not interested in preparing for the exam but rather was spending time surveying maps of goa and looking at maps of highways to goa...

leter on this fever caught hold of another victim-madhusudan...he started to call up ever day and he used to say that he was really too excited and couldn't get his mind off the bike ride and to get his mind towards studying..

well, it spread to his friend rakesh aswell...but his condition was not as worst as ours..lol..

ok now both of us(madhu and me)were waiting for the exams to get over with and to start the to get on our bikes and to start off to goa..
rajesh was not much into this whole excitment idea and was busy studying for the exams...exams started off and the days past by really fast...
we had planned to leave for goa on 10th of jan..07..as our exams were to get over on
9th of jan...

i wasn;t sure that rajesh was truely interested in the ride or possibly sceptic about the success of the ride plan...but we both would call him some time in between the exams
and ask him about the whole brother and bike situation...he was facing....he brother was supposed to go to USA on 11th or 12th but the dates were not yet confirmed as his visa was not yet ready..and rajesh's idea was to take his brother bike after he left to USA and was happy that he would not have to plead his bro to give him the bike for the ride...

well, i told him to get atleast his bike serviced and to get it ready for the worst case scenario where he would have to get his bike..in case his bro didn't let him to get his bike..
but he was really sure that his bro would leave for USA and his bike would be all free to be used..so he never bother to get his SAMURAI serviced...

i was really worried about the situation as his bike was not confirmed and the success of the entire plan was standing on the terms that rajesh would get his bike to the road trip...

well, the days went past by and my exams got over on the 8th of jan..and rajesh's exams were to get over on the 9th of jan...so called him up asked him abou the bike situation....and the reply i got was pretty scarry as he was not at all sure that his bro would let him borrow his bike even if he were to leave later in the month to US...
so i asked him to get his own bike SAMURAI serviced...but he as usually least bothered about his bike...

the next day his exams got over and we(me madhu and rajesh) met up on 9th of,but his responses were the same as the day before...

he was still not sure about which bike he was gonna get for the ride...rajesh told us that he would confirm the dates on which his bro would probably leave within 1 day..and let us know about which bike he would get to the ride..but his bro's departure was delayed due to some documental problems and here came the problem..he had not yet asked his bro for his bike and he had to let his brother know and get his permission within a day...else we would have to postpone the ride to some other day...

i never liked the idea of postponing rides and schedules without proper reasons...so to make sure he would get his bike me and madhu decided to go to his house and ask his father to help him get his bro' bike..and his father was not comfortable with the idea of rajesh borrowing his bro's bike..so he tried to convince rajesh to take his bike to the ride...but as rajesh had stuck to the plan of gettin his bro's bike he was not going to get convinced easily....

so we left his house in the night still not sure about the entire situation of rajesh tryin to get his bro's bike...
he told us that he would talk to his later in the night and ask him for the bike and would let us know if he was gonna get his bike or not..

but he didn't call us in the night...

well, a bad news was waiting for us the next day...
madhu had called rajesh early in the morning and rajesh had told that he was not gettin his bro's bike as his bro had refused to give his bike...!and was didn't want to come to the trip without his bro pulsar..so he had told that he was not going to come for the ride..!!i woke up to this news and was irritated on hearing it...

i decided to go to his house to convince him to get his samurai instead of his bro's bike...which was hell of a job...after i had my lunch and as i was getting ready to leave to rajesh's house..i got a call from an old school frien named suraj....whom i had never met after school..and i had also asked another friend vasist the night before on the internet while chatting to accompany us..and he had taken a nights time to tell us decision...

suraj called up and he came home..to meet me!!which was a great surprise...as i was talking to him i got a call from vasist saying that he would come along and confirmed that he was gonna get his bike...Now i was really happy as my plans were going along pretty well...but for the rajesh's situation...

now i asked suraj also to come along and he agreed!!..which was really great as everything was coming together as my plans...

i told him about the entire rajesh and his bike situation and so all three of us (suraj, vasist and me)decided to go to rajesh's place and convince him to get his own bike instead of pleading his bro for the pulsar...
so we left and we reached rajesh's place and got him convinced to get his bike ...but again he still was after his bro's pulsar...so he again for the last time asked this father to get his bro's bike...!!

this got me really frustrated and i couldn't shout at him as i was afraid he would change his mind on coming to ride....
so finally his brother agreed to give his bike to rajesh and so i sent suraj to go and get his packing done with as we had to go to rajesh's brother's ofice to collect the bike..

suraj left for to his place and madhu caught up with us on the way to the office....so now we went there and collected his bro's bike..but his bro was still not happy about it...
but again the so called stubborness of his younger brother never stopped..

none of us had gotten our luggauges packed except for rakesh who was not there when all these things were happening...so finally we all met up at rajesh's place and gave them a small plan guide to bike trip and with a few adjustments made the plan was set..the problem was no one had been to goa except for me so they didn't know about the travel attractions of the place...we had left our bikes to get the small repair shop near rajesh's place..

after we finished discussing about the plan..we picked up our bikes from the shop and we were about to leave...

when vasist got a call that his mother had slipped down the stairs and had been admitted to the hospital...
so he had to leave immedialtely..
i was freaking out as everything was falling apart again...
we had to leave tomorrow and we were short of one bike and a rider...
so now suraj could not come along if vasist would not come..!!

it was 9pm and we were left completely confused as we had no idea about what we could do...we tried calling other friends but nothing worked out...
i was really sad that we were going to leave suraj because one bike could not be adjusted...

so now i had to leave madhu to his house as it had gotten late and not many buses were available to his area at that time and moreover he had call his father and convince him about the ride!!and me aswell!!

so i ripped my bike to his house and it was almost 10 when we reached there....after 10minutes on the phone his father gave him permission...and we had more problems...on our way...Which i am too lazy and reluctant to write about..
